Police said they were called to a Main Street location at 7:31 a.m. Wednesday after a passerby reported a man pacing back and forth in front of a business with a concealed gun stuffed in the back of his pants. Officers found the man and determined his work gloves were creating a bulge below his belt that may have resembled a weapon.
Stephanie E. Staples, 33, of Amherst, was arrested at 12:57 a.m. Wednesday on charges of operating a vehicle while under the influence of liquor, unlicensed operation and violating marked lanes when she was stopped on Haydenville Road. An officer observed Staples swerving and crossing double-yellow lines. She also failed field sobriety tests and did not have a license, police said.
Russell A. Young, 35, 79 Hawley St., was arrested at 11:32 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant issued by Northampton District Court for failure to pay fines. An officer recognized Young who was standing outside a bar on Pleasant Street.
Cory J. Will, 28, Hadley, was arrested on multiple warrants and on charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and receiving less than $250 in stolen property when he was stopped atย 1:18 p.m. Tuesday. An officer, who recognized Will and knew he was wanted on warrants, stopped him on Mount Tom Road. The warrants issued byย Holyoke and Eastern Hampshire district courtsย were for shoplifting charges. Police said Will also had a backpack that was reported stolen the previous evening.
