Nancy A. (Allaire) and Bernard R. Bachand of Haydenville celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary June 2.
To mark the occasion they dined at The Storrowtown Inn with their daughter Patsy and niece, Maryann (Farrow) Smith of Manteno, Illinois.
Nancy Ann Allaire and Bernard Russell Bachand were married on June 2, 1956 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Haydenville at 9 a.m. The Mass was said by the Reverend William H. Smith, with six children waiting in the back of the church with their fishing poles so Father Smith could take them fishing.
Witnessing the event was Richard Bachand, brother of the groom, serving as best man, and Valerie Beaupre, cousin of the bride, serving as maid of honor as well as Gary Bachand, brother of Bernie, serving as ring bearer, Maryann Farrow, niece of the bride and groom, flower girl and Joan (Bachand) Kopka and Walter Kopka, Rose and Chester Grochowski Sr., Helen Mailhot, a high school classmate of Nancy’s and Bill Hurley and Frank Smith, both friends of the bride and groom.
Nancy attended Stamford High School and Bernie Williamsburg High School. Both are retired, Nancy from Spring Action, Easthampton in 1998 and Bernie from The Hampshire County Courthouse in 2001.
They had two children, Michael, who passed away in 2011, and Patsy Bachand who resides in Holyoke.
