The University of Massachusetts Donahue Institute has been awarded a $3 million grant to support teen pregnancy prevention efforts nationwide, Congressman James McGovern, D-Worcester, announced Thursday.

The five-year grant to the public service and economic development arm of the UMass presidentโ€™s office will allow it to assist with the teen pregnancy efforts ofย community organization across the country, including supporting conferences, training, coaching, mentoring, peer-to-peer support and virtual learning.

According to Sharon Vardatira, director of nonprofit funding and fiscal solutions for the institute, the grant will help the โ€œlong gameโ€ of community organizations.

The Hadley-based Donahue Instituteย is one of five recipients of the contract awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Adolescent Health.
