HOLYOKE — Western Massachusetts residents will have a chance to meet delegates supporting Bernie Sanders leading up to this month’s Democratic National Convention.
A free event at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Fiesta Café will include recognition of the nine delegates — including two alternates — in the First and Second Congressional Districts supporting Sanders, as well as displays from progressive organizations and informative talks on the DNC and the role of delegates.
Jeff Morneau, a candidate for Governor’s Council, will be the event’s host. Karen Lee, field director for the Morneau campaign and former field organizer for the Sanders campaign, said the event will both celebrate the delegates and continue support for progressive politicians.
Lee said she invited about 20 progressive groups to provide literature or speak at the event. They’ll help area progressives find where they fit into the political movement — something those who worked on Sanders’s campaign in western Massachusetts have been figuring out as well.
The event is free, but Lee said she hopes attendees will make donations to help delegates travel to Philadelphia for the DNC. RSVP is required, and a link to the RSVP form is available on the event’s Facebook page, titled “You’re invited! Meet the WMass Bernie Democratic Convention Delegates.”
