NORTHAMPTON — A national activist organization and western Massachusetts nonprofit will team up Tuesday evening to sponsor a gathering in support of black lives.

“Stand Up for Black Lives” is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Northampton City Hall, according to a Facebook page created for the event.

The American Friends Service Committee of Western Massachusetts and the Real Cost of Prisons Project are listed as its sponsors.

On its Facebook face, the event describes itself as a “public gathering to say NO! to the extinction of Black lives!”

“We will not be silent!” the event’s Facebook page says. “Bring your voice, bring whistles, make noise!”

The event comes after nationwide protests resulting from two videos that showed black men dying after being fatally shot by police officers. Among those protests was the one in Dallas on Thursday, during which a sniper shot 12 police officers, killing five.
