After 35 years of living on Highland Avenue in Northampton I got a parking ticket in front of my house. I was parked at the curb painted red by my neighbor.
I’ve noticed more frequently the parking enforcement officer ticketing on our side street while trucks drive by on North Street.
Why doesn’t the city enforce the $300 fine for trucks in our neighborhood? Why not install cameras to help with enforcement? I am sure the revenue taken in will more than cover the investment.
Or why not hire someone to enforce the no-truck law. Surely just one truck fine a day will cover the salary for this position. What if the nearby Coca-Cola Co. tunnels under I-91, creating a new entrance and avoiding our neighborhood altogether?
While speaking of tunnels, maybe some of the revenue generated through truck fines can go to constructing the bike path tunnel under the railway tracks. We’ve been promised and have been waiting a long time.
Maybe the recent slash and clearing the railway just did is preliminary site work. Better yet, why not put the tracks under a tunnel and reclaim the land for the bike path and a new green-way. And I hear they will be spraying soon.
