NORTHAMPTON – The Academy of Music is in line to receive $125,000 to replace its stage curtain as part of an economic development bill approved Friday by the state Senate.

The money is expected to improve public safety by replacing the curtain as well as conservation of the Academy’s original stage curtain.

The bill includes $330 million in funding for the MassWorks Infrastructure Program that can benefit Hampshire, Franklin and Worcester counties. The program provides a “one-stop shop” for municipalities and other public entities seeking public infrastructure funding to support economic development and job creation.

It also expands eligible uses of the Brownfield Redevelopment Fund,  according to Senate President  Stanley Rosenberg, D-Amherst.

“With loans and grants from the Brownfields Redevelopment Fund included in this legislation, abandoned and derelict properties can be repurposed and become vital sources of economic growth in western Massachusetts,” Rosenberg said in a statement.

The bill must now be reconciled with the House version in a conference committee.
