I greatly appreciated Lt. Col. John Paradis’ July 8 column, “Northampton soldier’s WWI story.”
His telling of the story of a local resident, killed in combat during World War I, was fascinating. With no living veterans of “The Great War” left, it is important to remember the sacrifices they made. This does not just apply to the celebrated, “big names,” such as Eddie Rickenbacker or Alvin York, but to every individual who fought for their country.
April 2017 will be the centennial of the United States’ entry into the war; it would be wonderful to read more stories of local residents who served in the conflict.
