EASTHAMPTON – Firefighters extinguished a blaze at 22 Davis St. late Monday night.

As of midnight, smoke continued to come from a white, two-story home in a neighborhood near Cottage Street, but as of 12:19 a.m., the fire was said to be under control, according to a dispatcher’s report.

Even so, smoke continued to pour from the roof area and firefighters were setting ladders in place.

It could not be determined early Tuesday whether anyone had been hurt in the fire or who owns the property. A neighbor said he saw a tenant of the home speaking with a firefighter.

Windows in the structure were missing and the work of fire crews was illuminated by a bright, white spotlight and the sweep of red emergency lights. People from throughout the neighborhood gathered to watch the progress of the fire department.

After midnight, crews continued inspecting the structure for signs of hidden flames, according to emergency radio reports.

Davis Street is a short street that connects with Adams Street on the east side of Lower Mill Pond near downtown Easthampton.

Crews from area departments were called to aid the Easthampton Fire Department.
