Hector L. Colon, 21, who lists his address as the streets of Holyoke, was arrested at 3:14 p.m. Monday on a charge of shoplifting when police responded to Big Y supermarket, 136 N. King St. Colon was walking out of the store with a shopping cart full of Red Bull and Monster energy drinks valued at about $220, police said. Surveillance also showed Colon taking the boxes of energy drinks and walking out of the store without paying.
Daniel R. Ryznic, 66, who lists his address as the streets of Northampton, was arrested about 10 a.m. Monday on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and willfully obstructing an emergency vehicle. Emergency medical technicians responding to a medical call reported to police that Ryznic obstructed the path of their ambulance by standing in front of it, police said. He was also removing trash from a receptacle and throwing it on the ground in the area of King Street and Carlon Drive. Police arrived and asked him why he was removing the trash, at which point Ryznic allegedly directed racial slurs at an officer. He also attempted to flee, but was subdued by officers while putting up a physical struggle, police said.
