With Amherst trailing by a run in the bottom of the seventh inning, Brett Evans delivered a two-run single to push it past Mohawk, 3-2, Thursday in the Pioneer Valley Youth Baseball League Mickey Mantle Tournament action.
Amherst stayed alive in the double-elimination tournament, while Mohawk was eliminated.
Amherst will play South Hadley Saturday at 4 p.m. in an elimination game. All remaining games at Deerfield Academyโs Headmaster Field.
Evans earned the win allowing two runs on six hits and no walks, while striking out five.
Evans finished 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Logan Dapprich scored twice and stole two bases.
Northampton 5, South Hadley 2 โ Top-seeded Hamp scored all five of its runs in the fifth inning to advance in the winners bracket and will play Dalton, Saturday at 10 a.m.
Dillon Diemand had a double and drove in two runs for Northampton, while Tristan Szawlowski had a double, an RBI and a run. R.J. Safron had three hits and scored run.
David Adams had a hit and drove in a run for South Hadley, while Braden Fogarty had two hits and scored a run.
Dalton 12, Frontier 6 โ Spencer Telega (two RBIs), Kalen Evans (RBI) and Tim Barrington (RBI) each had one hit but Frontier fell in the winners bracket of the Mickey Mantle Tournament.
Frontier plays Easthampton at 1 p.m. Saturday.
