AMHERST — Flames and smoke were reported coming from the roof ventilation system at a hospice in Amherst on Friday evening.
Emergency crews from Amherst and Belchertown that responded to Hospice of the Fisher Home, 1165 N. Pleasant St., arrived on scene in the early evening and remained past 11 p.m., police said.
Officials Friday night said they could not discuss the cause of the fire nor whether any injuries were reported. It was also not immediately clear whether any residents of the home would be displaced as a result of the fire. Amherst Police said more information would be available Saturday morning.
Patients and staff watched outside around 8 p.m. as fire rescue officials moved in and out of the building. The front of the roof was still wet in the area where firefighters extinguished the flames.
No external damage to the structure was visible.
