HATFIELD — Massachusetts State Police have identified David A. Healey, of Shelburne, as the man killed in a rollover accident on Interstate 91 Friday afternoon. He was not wearing a seat belt, which contributed to the injuries causing his death, police said.
Healey, 53, was thrown from his Toyota Tundra when a flat tire caused the truck to swerve and roll over, police said. Healey was traveling north near Exit 21 when the tire blew out, according to a statement by Trooper Timothy Harris.
Multiple callers reported the incident to authorities around 4 p.m., police said. Healey was found a short distance from his truck and was transported to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton where he died of his injuries.
State Trooper Matthew Guarino said Saturday that Healey was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Though the accident remains under investigation by state police, Guarino said not wearing a seat belt was directly related to the injuries which caused Healey’s death.
The accident temporarily closed lanes on both sides of the highway Friday afternoon.
