AMHERST – An executive session in which the Amherst-Pelham Regional and Union 26 school committees were to conduct strategy and collective bargaining negotiations with Superintendent Maria Geryk on Wednesday afternoon has been canceled.
Regional School Committee Chairwoman Laura Kent said in an email Tuesday that the meeting was called off “because at this time there is no new information to share with the committee.”
Kent explained that summer is a difficult time for members of the committees to find times to meet, but she hopes to reschedule the meeting for late this week or early next week, at which time a statement will be issued.
The committee over the past two weeks has met in executive session for more than six hours, though Geryk has not been identified as the subject of those meetings. Both meetings were posted “to conduct strategy sessions in preparation for negotiations with non-union personnel or to conduct collective bargaining sessions or contract negotiations with non-union personnel.”
Thomas Colomb of the Boston and Springfield law firm Murphy, Hesse, Toomey & Lehane attended both executive sessions which were held July 13 and 20.
The posting for Wednesday’s meeting identified Geryk as participating.
The committees have not yet issued their annual evaluation of Geryk, which had been scheduled to happen last week before that meeting was canceled.
