UMass big man Brison Gresham has a stress fracture in his hip and will miss the remainder of the team’s summer workouts.
Minuteman coach Derek Kellogg confirmed that the New Orleans native would be out for four to six weeks but expected Gresham to be back at full strength in early September when the team returns for the fall semester.
UMass has only three weeks remaining of the second summer session before the team disperses for the end of August.
“He should be ready right around the time we get back,” Kellogg said.
According to UMass athletic trainer Dave Maclutsky, the 6-foot-8 forward will not require surgery, just rest.
“He won’t need crutches or a walker or anything like that,” Maclustsky said. “He won’t be able to run or jump, but he will be able to work out with the team in the weight room to keep him himself in shape until it heals.”
Kellogg said the Minutemen are being cautious with rising juniors C.J. Anderson, who was injured at the end of last season, as well as forward Zach Coleman, who has battled injuries throughout his UMass career, to make sure both are fresh for the season.
“They’ve all been able to practice so I think we’re in pretty good shape,” Kellogg said.
