Regarding U.S. Rep. Richard Neal’s absence from the Hilltowns, I do not agree that he is not doing his job.

As a Blue/Gold Officer for the U.S. Naval Academy, I cover the same area large area – that of my late friend, U.S. Rep. Silvio O. Conte, and part of the former district of U.S. Rep. John Olver.

Neal has taken the time to show up at award ceremonies at Adams High School this year for a young man who is now at the Naval Academy.

His yearly seminar at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee for all the students in the district who are thinking of joining the military, and serving our country, is outstanding. He recognizes students from across his district who have been selected to attend our military academies.

Like all men and women who serve in public office, a representative’s staff is key to being all things to all people, as Neal told me many years ago when he represented Northampton.

“Tell my staff you want to talk to me,” he said, “and I will return your call” – and he always did.

I suggest voters in Neal’s district call his office to discuss any problems they have. I’m sure they will share it with him, and ask him to show up for events, if there is a way he can.
