A pilot lost control of a plane Thursday, causing a small crash at Northampton Airport at 12:07 p.m.

As the pilot was attempting to land, the nose of the plane — a fixed-wing, single engine 2007 Aero — kept tilting toward the ground, the pilot told police. He adjusted the nose and began to land, trying to circle the runway.

His efforts to circle the runway yielded a hard left turn into the grass, with the nose of the plane digging into the earth. The propeller shattered and the rear wheel was torn off.

Northampton Police and Fire departments responded, but there were no injuries, Northampton Police Sergeant Victor Caputo said.

The crash is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
