NORTHAMPTON — A fire in a barn prompted police to close Middle Street for over an hour Tuesday evening.
According to the Northampton Fire Department, a fire caused by an “outside heat source of unknown origin” started on the exterior of a barn on the back side of a home at 26 Middle St. The fire spread to the interior, causing an estimated $10,000 worth of damage, according to fire officials.
Northampton fire and police departments responded to the call at 6:41 p.m., officials said. The fire took some 20 minutes to extenguish. There were no injuries and the fire was deemed not suspicious.
