A letter-writer in the Gazette on July 20 expressed opposition to Donald Trump’s style of leadership, one he said depended on “sound bites and insulting personal attacks.” It was clear that his method with others was to bully his way to get what he wanted, a method anathema to the accepted ideal of democratic leadership required of our president.
I believe strongly that Trump, who has no experience in governing, does not have the stable temperament to handle complex matters of state of national import which would go beyond his egocentric need to win a deal.
I believe, too, that he has an authoritarian personality and would readily use the power of the presidency to dominate rather than to lead with the common good in mind. To him there are only winners and losers. I see these character failings as reasons to judge Trump unfit to be our president.
As Thomas Paine wrote in December 1776 of the Revolutionary War, “These are the times that try men’s souls.” Do not vote for Trump.
