The other day, I came away from a photo assignment on the Smith College campus feeling dissatisfied. My pictures seemed just average to me, and I was still craving something visual.
As I walked to my car, I saw a person pass through the walkway between Sabin-Reed and McConnell halls, with the moon perched high overhead. It was the image I wanted, needed, but I wasnโt ready for it, and missed the shot. No problem. I figured Iโd just wait for the next opportunity (hoping the moon had no place to go).
Iโve learned that a big part of being a photographer is waiting โ sometimes for hours โ for that perfect moment. On this occasion, I only waited minutes for this scene to materialize, and to satisfy my visual craving.ย
