A section of Route 5 near the Pleasant-Conz intersection will close overnight Saturday so that crews can install a new water line as part of construction of a roundabout.
The new water line from Wright Avenue to the levee on Route 5 will tie into an existing water line. To allow for this work, the area will be closed to traffic from about 8 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday, according to a press release from Mayor David J. Narkewicz’s office. The road closure will be from the Conz-Pleasant intersection to Interstate 91’s Exit 18 interchange.
Electronic billboard signs with detour information will be on display in the area, including on I-91. Exit 18 will not be accessible from Route 5 southbound coming from downtown Northampton. Those exiting I-91 on Exit 18 will not be allowed to turn left onto Route 5 north.
