AMHERST – An event that signals the beginning of the academic year in Amherst and outlines goals for the continued partnership among campus and town officials and business leaders will mark its 50th anniversary next week.

The annual Community Breakfast will be held at the Student Union Ballroom at the University of Massachusetts from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Tony Maroulis, director of external relations at UMass, said Monday that the event will bring together hundreds of people to talk about the economic well-being of the region.

“It will be a celebration of our relationship with the town and the business community, as it always is,” Maroulis said.

Goals and challenges are often outlined at the breakfast. For instance, last year UMass Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy, who will be the master of ceremonies and host this year, highlighted the work planned by the University-Town of Amherst Collaborative and its focus on housing and economic development.

There will also be talks by a UMass student and Georgia Moore, vice president of the chamber.

The event usually concludes with a brief performance by members of the UMass Minuteman Marching Band.

Advance tickets are $8 per person and can be purchased at www.hotelumass.com/registration by noon Monday. Tickets will also be available at the door for $10.

Those attending may park for free in the Campus Center Garage.
