WHATELY — Six Whately customers lost power Tuesday morning after a bird apparently flew into a transformer on Long Plain Road.
Whately police and fire responded to the intersection of Christian Lane and Long Plain Road for a report of electrical wires down and on fire about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Whately Police Department’s official Facebook page.
Emergency responders determined that a bird may have hit the transformer to which the wires were connected, causing a power outage and fluid leak.
A hazardous material company worked to clean up the oil spill, and Eversource was called to install a new transformer and wires.
Long Plain Road was closed from Christian Lane to Straits Road during the afternoon.
