Gun control should focus on ‘high capacity,’ ammo

The dangers of mass killings with firearms could be reduced if we were to concentrate restrictions not on guns alone — remember, gun ownership is protected by the Constitution — but on “high capacity” magazines such as ammo holders attached to guns and ammunition possession.

This last limitation was suggested many years ago by deceased Sen. Pat Moynihan, D-New York.

Yes, reloading is possible, but the people doing mass shootings are not likely to take this route. Anyway, gunpowder can be restricted as well.

These limitations would be resisted, but the details can be worked out over time.

This would leave guns in people’s possession but render them far less dangerous. Instead of “gun control” we would have “gun safety.”
