DEERFIELD — A 21-year-old Amherst man was arrested for drunken driving and other motor vehicle charges after a 1 1/2-mile chase Tuesday night in Deerfield.
Officer Jennifer Bartak was conducting traffic enforcement on Sunderland Road when she noticed a Chevrolet Corvette race past a Toyota Prius at speeds of over 80 mph in a 50-mph zone, according to the department’s official Facebook page.
Bartak gave chase, but the driver of the Corvette failed to stop for a red light and turned down Sugarloaf Street extension toward Whately.
Bartak continued the pursuit until the driver, who was not identified, pulled into the 5J Creamee off River Road.
The driver, who was not identified in the post, was placed under arrest and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Greenfield District Court on charges of speeding, failure to stop for police and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. The suspect registered a breath test result well over the legal limit, the post said.
