A RIVER’S MANY FACETS

For some, the end of summer means that a glorious recreational destination — the Connecticut River — slips once more into the background. Give it a proper sendoff by attending the dedication Wednesday of a new “waypoint” center in Hadley, part of the Connecticut River Scenic Byway. Though life today is all about roads, New England’s great river was once a kind of Main Street. Official waypoints along the river are designed to help visitors learn about its natural and cultural features; maps and brochures will seal the deal.

1 to 4 p.m., Porter-Phelps-Huntington Museum, 130 River Drive. pphmuseum.org
