Amherst sidewalk work in front of Jones Library

AMHERST – A sidewalk and curb on Amity Street in front of the Jones Library will be demolished beginning Tuesday.

The work will be done by Warner Brothers LLC of Sunderland between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. and follows the rebuilding of the Amity Street parking lot earlier this year.

The project will also include resurfacing a section of Amity Street and installation of a new raised crosswalk that will replace a temporary one in place for more than a decade.

The sidewalk and adjacent parking spaces will be closed for the duration of the work, and the main entrance to the 43 Amity St. library will be inaccessible. Patrons are advised to use the side entrance.

Pedestrians should use the crosswalks at North Pleasant Street and North Prospect Street until the new crosswalk is in place.

Motorists should expect minor delays during the project.
