NORTHAMPTON – Police arrested three motorists for drunken driving within a three-hour span late Thursday night into early Friday morning. 

Michael Staples Vanwhy, 38, of Bloomfield, Connecticut, was arrested about 2 a.m. Friday on Mount Tom Road on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and a motor vehicle lights violation. 

At 12:39 a.m. Friday, police arrested Toby Barnes, 41, of 53 Arnold Road in Amherst on Bridge Street near the Calvin Coolidge Bridge on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and a marked lanes violation. 

And about 11 p.m. Thursday, Sath Chap, 31, of West Springfield, was arrested on Pleasant Street on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol (second offense). 

“It was a busy night in general,” Northampton Police Capt. John Cartledge said Friday morning.
