Following is a list of local veterans whose obituaries appeared in the Gazette between Aug. 19 and Sept. 1. The information given here about their service is what was provided in each obituary.
Gregoire G. Rochon, 92, Chicopee, d. Aug. 17; He served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II with the Air Transport Command and attained the rank of Corporal. He received the American Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Henry Paul Cybulski, 82, Charlotte, North Carolina, formerly Easthampton and Florence, d. Aug. 13: he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1959. During that time he served on the USS Shenandoah AD-26, USS Eaton DDE-510 and the USS Bache DDE-470.
Donald R. LeBlanc, 85, Saugus, d. Aug. 23; he was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran.
Martin Ash Merrill, 86, Granby, d. Aug. 27; he served in Alaska as an Army officer in the Ordnance Corps during the Korean War. After his service, Martin continued to serve in the Army Reserves until 1964.
Richard E. Connor, 88, Florence, d. Aug. 26; he was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in Korea and Japan.
Walter Whitman Forbush Jr., 82, Southampton, d. Aug. 25; he joined the Massachusetts Air National Guard in Westfield in 1952, where he served until his retirement in 1990, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel.
