I just read Tara Ganguly’s beautifully written, heartfelt, respectful article on the Sept. 3 editorial page. She communicates her anger and her passion fully without attacking anyone.

I suspect that the internet has replaced the personal diary as a place to express unhampered, unexpurgated personal feelings about everything. How unfortunate!

Private and public have lost an appropriate separation. People seem remarkably unaware that anyone may see and judge their expressions on popular internet sites.

Also unfortunate is the fact that unguarded disrespectful language has become a major issue in the presidential race, and is making people more aware of the pleasure, or horror, that kind of self-expression arouses.

There seems to be some confusion about the difference between “political correctness” and respect. The former implies an unthinking convention; the latter is as old as the Bible.

Personally, I’m in favor of a return to the personal diary!
