EASTHAMPTON — After Adamo’s Pizzeria was ordered last month to stop serving alcohol, the Licensing Board last week approved the sale of beer, wine and liquor pending state approval.
Adamo’s was sold in April to Roma’s Restaurant Inc. Following the sale, the establishment at 126 Northampton St. continued operating as usual –including selling alcohol. But the licensing board last month discovered that the all-alcohol license had never been transferred from the previous owner, which meant that Adamo’s was selling alcohol without a valid license for over three months.
Representatives from Roma’s on Aug. 30 told the Licensing Board that the confusion came from apparent lapses in communication.
“We were told by the attorney and the previous owner that the license would be transferred,” said manager Wilber B. Moreno. “That’s why we continued selling alcohol.”
Roma’s new attorney, Timothy P. O’Leary, represented the company at the meeting. He said that Sarah Adamos, the previous owner, had already signed off on the license transfer and such a provision was included in the purchase-and-sale agreement.
The board voted unanimously not to take any action against the restaurant and to approve the license transfer. It will be allowed to serve alcohol pending approval by the state Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission.
