AMHERST — The woman found dead in a Puffton Village apartment last week has been identified as 21-year-old University of Massachusetts Amherst student Samantha Suchovic.

A senior from Lebanon Township, New Jersey, Suchovic was identified in an email to the campus sent by Student Affairs and Campus Life.

Suchovic was found dead Sept. 1 in an apartment at Puffton Village, 1040 North Pleasant St. Her death is not considered suspicious and the medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of her death, according to Mary Carey, spokeswoman for the Northwestern district attorney’s office.

As an unattended death, an investigation will be done by Amherst Police and the Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the district attorney’s office. The current status of the investigation is unclear.

Suchovic was majoring in psychology and had a minor in education. She was involved in Habitat for Humanity and resident hall and campus sustainability groups. She worked as a resident assistant and for UMass Dining Services, David C. Vaillancourt, senior associate dean of students, wrote in the email.

The email directed the campus community to the university’s student loss and remembrance page and school counseling and religious resources.
