NORTHAMPTON – Tenants were evacuated Thursday night from multiple units at New South Street Apartments after water got into several apartments, according to the Northampton Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the row of apartments at 22-34 New South Street about 7:15 p.m. The source of the water damage was not immediately clear Thursday night, but occurred on the building’s top floor, according to firefighters.

The Fire Department turned the scene over to the one of the city’s building inspectors, who arrived at the 18-unit apartment building for low-income residents to investigate and inspect the damage.
