WORDS THAT LAST

Just the thought of this is mind-boggling: On Saturday, beginning at 6 a.m., volunteers will read aloud every one of Emily Dickinson’s 1,789 poems on the grounds of the Dickinson Homestead, 280 Main St. in Amherst, where Amherst’s beloved poet lived and composed her work. What would she think, I wonder, if she could look down from her second-floor bedroom window to see throngs of people enjoying her words?

It’s part of the fourth annual Amherst Poetry Fest and Emily Dickinson Poetry Marathon, which started Thursday and runs through Saturday. www.emilydickinsonmuseum.org.
