SOUTH HADLEY — A 29-year-old Chicopee man was hospitalized after he accidentally shot himself in the finger with a pistol at McCray’s Country Creamery Sunday afternoon.
Police received several 911 calls Sunday at around 3 p.m. due to a man with a “severe cut” on his finger in the McCray’s parking lot. After arriving on scene, police learned the man had just left after accidentally shooting himself in the finger with a small caliber pistol. He was taken to Holyoke Medical Center by a friend for treatment of his injury, according to a release.
The gun and ammunition have since been recovered by police. The investigation is ongoing.
The man was licensed to carry firearms, police said in the statement, but no additional information about him has been made available at this time.
