GRANBY – Senator Eric P. Lesser announced that the Massachusetts Department of Transportation will host an E-ZPass distribution event at the Granby Council On Aging, located at 10 West State St. Granby, MA 01033 on Wednesday Sept. 21. The event will be held between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

“With the Commonwealth preparing to move to electronic tolling along the Mass Pike and E-ZPass set to become the preferred payment method for tolls, it’s important that we are able to ensure that residents in Western Massachusetts have the chance to obtain a transponder before this this program is put into place,” Senator Lesser said. “Unfortunately, the closest E-ZPass service center is in Auburn, meaning that residents of Western Massachusetts who may not have access to a computer at home must travel to the Worcester area for a transponder.”

In August, Senator Lesser sent a letter to the Department of Transportation urging Secretary Stephanie Pollack to make access to transponders more readily available in Western Massachusetts.

“Time and time again, residents in Western Massachusetts are at a disadvantage when it comes to our ability to access certain services from the state. By bringing the Department of Transportation out here for this type of event we can begin to bridge the gap in terms of providing services to residents.”

Residents of Granby interested in participating in the event can contact Granby Council on Aging Director Jessica Langlois at (413) 467-3239.
