EASTHAMPTON – An Easthampton was arrested Wednesday after allegedly driving his car drunk for about a mile along the Manhan Rail Trail.
Andrew Frechette, 66, of 3 Gaugh St., Apt. 1, was arrested at 6:58 p.m. Wednesday with a blood alcohol content of 0.25 percent, or more than three times the legal limit of .08 percent, according to police.
Police said Frechette entered the bike trail from Route 5 before hitting two concrete poles on Fort Hill Road which are placed to keep motor vehicles off the trail. Frechette’s car was disabled when he hit the second pole, police said.
Frechette pleaded not guilty in Northampton District Court on Thursday to charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of motor vehicle, and leaving the scene of property damage.
He was released and is scheduled to appear again in court Oct. 28.
