EASTHAMPTON — To strengthen family bonds and support youths through challenging times, the Easthampton Healthy Youth Coalition is offering a free program for parents and children ages 10 to 14.

Focused on substance abuse prevention, “The Strengthening Families Program For Parents and Youth 10-14” is an interactive session involving skill-building.

The next session starts Oct. 6 and will run for seven weeks. Dinner is served at 5:30 p.m. and the program runs from 6 to 8 p.m. each Thursday.

Among other things, the program allows children and parents to focus on different topics relevant to them. Parents learn how to express love to their children while also conveying clear expectations, according to coordinator Ruth Ever. Children learn how to deal with social situations such as peer pressure.

Ever said the goal of the coalition and program is to “make sure youths get all the support they need.”

This is the second year the coalition is offering the program and it plans to host more sessions throughout the school year. To register call (413) 207-5725 or email coalition@epsd.us.
