GREENFIELD – Four people have died in an early morning fire at 140 Meridian St. The victims are believed to be three adults and one child, State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey and Greenfield Fire Chief Robert Strahan confirmed Sunday.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will formally identify the victims and that information will be released by the Office of the Northwestern District Attorney after next of kin have been notified.
The investigation into the origin and cause of the fire in the one-family home is being jointly conducted by the Greenfield Fire Department, the Greenfield Police Department and State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal and to the Office of the Northwestern District Attorney. The Department of Fire Services’ Code Compliance Unit and the State Police Crime Scene Services are also assisting.
