BELCHERTOWN — The town’s newest full-time police officer is a recent academy graduate who has served as both a part-time and auxiliary officer for the Police Department since early 2014.
Jeremy Burns, who joined the department on a full-time basis Sept. 21, works a midnight to 8 a.m. shift.
A graduate of Westfield State University, Burns was among a class of 41 officers in the 54th class at the Western Massachusetts Police Academy in Springfield. He lives in Belchertown.
In January 2014, Burns worked as an auxiliary officer. While in this position, he completed the department’s field training officer program.
Burns became a part-time officer in January 2015. A full-time position opened last fall when Jason Christofori left to become a trooper for the Massachusetts State Police.
