NORTHAMPTON – Four finalists for Forbes Library director have been invited to each attend daylong interviews next month.
Among the candidates are two librarians who currently work in Northampton and two from out-of-state. Each are scheduled to come to Forbes for one day in October, where they will meet with staff and attend a public meeting, according to trustee Marjorie Hess.
She was on the committee that selected the finalists from 28 applicants. The group is searching for a successor to retiring director Janet Moulding who has led the library since 2004 and will leave at year’s end.
The public is invited to attend sessions the afternoon of each candidate’s visit to meet and ask them questions. Residents will also be invited to submit comments about the candidates to the trustees, Hess said.
Lynn Piotrowicz, director of the Tucker Free Library in Henniker, New Hampshire, will be interviewed Oct. 7. The public meeting will be held at 3:30 p.m. in the Coolidge Museum.
Matthew DeLaney, administrative director of the Onondaga County Public Library in Syracuse, New York, will be interviewed Oct. 13. The public meeting will be held at 4 p.m. in the library’s Community Room.
Adam Novitt, director of the Lilly Library in Florence, will be interviewed Oct. 20. The public meeting will be held at 4 p.m. in the Coolidge Museum.
Lisa Downing, assistant director and patron services librarian at Forbes, will be interviewed Oct. 24. The public meeting will be held at 4 p.m. in the Coolidge Museum.
Hess said that the four candidates best matched what the search committee sought in terms of experience.
“I think the thing that really stood out with them is that they’re all wonderful advocates for public libraries,” Hess said.
