State Sen. Benjamin B. Downing, who announced in January that he will not seek reelection, has endorsed Democrat Adam Hinds to succeed him, according to a press release from the Hinds campaign.

“Adam will come to the job well prepared to build relationships without sacrificing our core values or bending to special interests,” Downing, a Democrat from Pittsfield, said in the statement.

Hinds will face Republican Christine Canning on the Nov. 8 ballot.

Downing represents the Berkshire, Hampshire, Franklin and Hampden district, which includes Chesterfield, Cummington, Goshen, Huntington, Middlefield, Plainfield, Westhampton, Williamsburg and Worthington in Hampshire County.
