SUNDERLAND — Residents with disabilities will soon have advocates speaking on their behalf in town government.
According to a notice posted on the town’s website, the Select Board will appoint five people as members of a newly formed Commission on Disability.
According to the announcement, the role of the commission will be “to research local problems of people with disabilities; advise and assist municipal officials and employees in ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and regulations that affect people with disabilities.”
That is in addition to coordinating and carrying out “programs designed to meet the problems of people with disabilities in coordination with programs of the Massachusetts Office on Disability.”
The commission will also review town policies, procedures, services, facilities and activities and make recommendations for improvements.
