The top two girls volleyball teams in the Southern League met on Friday.
When they meet at the end of the regular season, there’s a chance a league title will be on the line.
Belchertown held off South Hadley, 3-2, at home to forge a tie atop the league standings.
The Orioles (12-3, 4-1) dropped the first set but rallied for a 25-27, 25-17, 25-22, 22-25, 15-8 victory over the Tigers (11-3, 4-1).
Cara McKenzie (three blocks) had 26 kills and seven aces, while Jenna Blain had 15 assists and Allie Lukas 11 for Belchertown.
Kiana Turner powered the Tigers with five aces, 20 kills and 19 digs. Morgan Adams added 27 assists, five kills and two aces, while Kaylyn Lebrecque had three block and four kills.
The teams meet again on Oct. 28 in South Hadley.
Amherst Regional 3, Minnechaug 0 — The undefeated Hurricanes (15-0) won 25-23, 25-17, 25-18 as they beat the Falcons (11-2) for the second time in a week.
Claire Basler-Chang had two aces, 17 kills and eight digs, Meg Rice added 12 kills and 15 digs, and Nina Hayes added 10 kills and nine digs.
Amherst Regional 7, East Longmeadow 0 — Colton Spirko (assist) and Josiah Wilson each scored twice as the Hurricanes (6-4-2) rolled at home.
Tim Felton (assist) and John Swanson also scored, while Luca LaRaja, Samson Heyer and Marvin Rivas Ayala each had one assist.
Declan Gray-Mullen made five saves in the shutout.
Gateway Regional 3, Easthampton 1 — Evan Lee scored two goals and Shane Mastello made five saves as the Gators (8-3-3) won on the road.
Fran Fuhrmann scored from Lucas Patton and Drew Caires made 10 saves for the Eagles (4-7-2).
Westfield 3, Northampton 0 — The league-leading Bombers (7-3-4, 4-0-1 Moriarty) scored three second-half goals en route to the win in Northampton.
Ian Hutchins made 15 saves for the Blue Devils (4-7-3, 2-1-2).
Southwick 6, South Hadley 0 — Clayton Koppi made four saves but the Tigers (1-11-2) fell on the road.
Putnam 4, Smith Vocational 1 — Jacob Rafus scored from Anthony Palazzi but the Vikings (4-9-1) fell on the road.
South Hadley 8, Ware 0 — The Tigers (8-4-1) exploded again and have now scored 21 goals over their last two games.
Alexa Blaney scored three straight to stake South Hadley to a 5-0 halftime lead.
Bailey Gawron, Breezy Couture, Emma Slysz, Maddie Doolittle and Sophie Gatzounas also scored in the win.
Morgan Harrington had two assists, while Kaylin Cousineau, Lindsay Marjanski, Doolittle, Couture and Slysz each had one.
Gatzounas made two saves, while Gawron made none in spot duty for the Tigers.
Field hockey
Frontier Regional 0, Mohawk 0 — The Red Hawks (11-1-2, 3-1-1 North) kept goalie Isis Moon busy but she made 11 saves for the Warriors (4-8-2, 1-3-1) in Buckland.
Skyla Burniske did not have to make a save for Frontier, which had eight corners to Mohawk’s three.
