Hopkins Academy scored in the first half and Smith Academy matched it in the second as the rival girls soccer teams played to a 1-1 draw in Hatfield on Saturday.

Carrie Ellis scored in the 24th minute on a penalty kick to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The Golden Hawks struck back in the 51st minute when Samantha Jenks scored unassisted.

Miranda Pitta stopped six shots for Hopkins (10-2-1, 3-0-1 Pioneer South). Gabby Tisdale made 13 saves for the Falcons (4-7-2, 1-2-1).

South Hadley 3, Mahar 0 โ€” Emma Slysz (assist) scored twice and Alexa Blaney added one goal as the Tigers (9-4-1) won at home on Saturday and qualified for the postseason.

Sarah Fudger and Marley Medina each had one assist, and Sophie Gatzounas finished with six saves in the shutout.

Gateway Regional 3, Lenox 0 โ€” Rachel LeBarron had two goals and Jessica Van Heynigen added one as the Gators (9-2-3) won in Berkshire County on Saturday.

Erin Harris and Samantha Belardo each had one assist. Becca Herman made five saves.

Boys soccer

Hopkins Academy 1, Smith Academy 0 โ€” John Earle scored from Oliver Rodgers as the Golden Hawks (5-8-2) won in Hatfield on Saturday.

Jack Feltovic did not make a save in the clean sheet.

Jack Hession stopped eight shots for the Falcons (5-7-1).

Field hockey

Smith Academy 8, Athol 0 โ€” Santana Dubois and Liv Cavanaugh each scored twice as the Falcons (4-7-2) rolled at home on Saturday.

Emma Hobert, Vanessa Skawski, Molly Kokoski and Madi Zigmont each had one goal. Izzy Duseau had one assist and Taeghan Cavanaugh made two saves in the shutout.

Cross country

Bob McIntyre Twilight Invitational โ€” The Northampton and South Hadley boys and girls teams competed Saturday at the Cape Cod Fairgrounds in Falmouth.

The Hamp boys placed sixthwith 284 points in the Division 1 varsity field. South Hadley was 30th with 751.

Ethan Milsark was 32nd for Northampton in 16:32.02 on the 5-kilometer course. Nick Peterson was 43rd in 16:44.10.

Joe Werenski was 97th (17:32.91) to pace South Hadley.

The Northampton girls finished ninth with a score of 281. South Hadley was 19th (448).

Mary Yount was 30th (19:38.72) and Evelyn Burke was 31st (19:39.22) for Northampton. Leila Markosian was 36th in 19:45.32.

Jocelyn Rondeau was 37th in 19:47.65 for South Hadley.
