NORHAMPTON
A 72-year-old woman was arrested Friday afternoon following a crash in which police said she was under the influence. Constance Coggswell, of Northampton, was arrested for a second offense operating under the influence of alcohol. Police responded to a one-car crash near the North King Animal Clinic around 1:30 p.m. Coggswell’s vehicle hit a tree, according to Sgt. Patrick Moody. She was taken into police custody and then ultimately transported to the hospital, according to police.
Police stopped a 20-year-old man at 1:41 a.m. Saturday near Sam’s Pizza on Main Street in Northampton after hearing a large scraping sound. The man, Marco Barroso, of Florence, attempted to get out of his car and walk away, according to police. Police determined the scrapping sound came from something hanging off of the car from an earlier collision, police said. He was arrested and charged with operating while under the influence of alcohol and brought to jail where he was held on $500 bail.
