Moliere’s “The Misanthrope” turned 350 years old this year — and to show that the French satirist’s dissection of the frivolous society of his time remains as relevant as ever, the UMass Theater Dept. has mounted a production in which the playwright’s snarky observations about love and friendship play out in the context of Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and our whole screen-obsessed, modern-day world.
Remaining performances are Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2 and 7:30 p.m. in the university’s Rand Theater. $16 general; $8 students and seniors. 545-2511, umass.edu/theater
