The region might get its first taste of winter weather Thursday morning, especially in higher elevations. But those in the Valley shouldn’t expect a blanket of white just yet.
“You could be seeing the isolated flake within the next hour or two,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Alan Dunham around 8 a.m. “It’s to say winter’s coming, but nothing’s going to accumulate.”
The NWS Boston office has forecast a chance of isolated show showers Thursday morning, with a higher probability of snow in higher elevations. Any snow is expected to quickly change to rain by the early afternoon. The precipitation is expected to continue into the evening. There’s also a chance of thunderstorms tonight.
“Down in the Valley I would think it (snow) would be fairly short-lived,” Dunham said. “There’s a snowflake here, there’s another snowflake!”
Today, the highs are expected to be around 40. There’s a chance of rain again tomorrow with patchy fog in the morning, highs in the upper-40s.
Small parts of northern Maine and Upstate New York can expect snow accumulation of up to 8 inches by 8 p.m. tonight, according to the NWS.
