Turkey Vulture
Snell Street, Amherst
Photograph and text by Photograph and text by Anne E. Ely, South Hadley
While driving along Snell Street in Amherst in mid-September I came upon a Turkey Vulture performing its cleanup duties on some roadkill at the side of the road. I pulled over and slid out of my car to capture a few images.
Iโve been trying to capture a close up of a turkey vultureโs handsome head (to the lady turkey vultures anyway) and thought this might be my opportunity. Unfortunately that road is heavily traveled and the bird flew up off into the trees where it perched, waiting until the coast was clear. It was soon joined by another, a juvenile this time, but no luck. Just too much traffic.
I did manage, however, to create this image of it as it sat in a tree waiting.
