My wife just got over a cold a few days ago. During her illness I ministered to her lots of chicken soup.

When she first came down with the cold, I got her some ready-to-go chicken and noodle soup from Big Y. She loved it.

A few days later I got her some ready-to-go chicken and veggie soup from River Valley Market. She loved it.

With her clearly displaying a love of this soup for the sick soul, I decided to make her turkey and noodle soup from scratch.

I cooked a turkey.

Then I made turkey stock in my pressure cooker from the leftover carcass.

Next I added celery, leeks, onion and carrots. Then, some of the just-cooked turkey.

I served her a nice bowl of my Lou’s Famous Turkey Soup.

I should have walked the dog right about then.

But no ……….. I had to ask her if my soup was better than the store varieties.

Like lawyers say, “Never ask a question you don’t already know the answer to.”

My wife, who was clearly a tad too medicated, didn’t answer at first. Then she said, “Well, they’re all good … But I did like the first one, from Big Y.”

I was shocked! I say. Shocked!

It was like someone telling me the Cubs had just won the World Series.

Now, I have to buy another turkey and try again.

I know it is close to Thanksgiving, Lou, and you have turkey on the brain, but, did you ever think its the chicken soup she likes not the turkey soup?

Get a chicken. There are few things better when you are sick than steaming hot homemade CHICKEN soup.

And give us all a break and don’t cook all the turkeys before the big day. Save some for the rest of us.
